My interest in construction grew from working in the field and running my own small business. Those experiences showed me how much the work we do can impact people and communities. I realized I wanted to do more than the physical side of construction—I wanted to understand how projects come together from start to finish and eventually have the opportunity to lead them.

As a first-generation college student, balancing school, work, and personal responsibilities has not always been easy. There have been long days, but they have taught me to stay organized, work hard, and keep going even when things get difficult. I also try to give back by participating in monthly outreach in downtown Greenville and helping other first-generation students navigate the college enrollment process.

My goal is to transfer from Greenville Technical College to a four-year university, study Construction Science and Management, and eventually become a project manager in commercial construction.

Receiving this scholarship has taken some of the financial stress off my shoulders and allowed me to put more of my energy into school and preparing for what comes next. It also reminds me that the hard work I’m putting in now is worth it and that there are people who want to see students like me succeed.
